The Banatul Symphony Orchestra of Timişoara and the conductor Tiberiu Dragos Oprea

The Banatul Symphony Orchestra was established in 1947 and, for many decades, has enriched the artistic life of the city. From the very beginning, the symphonic concerts were covering a wide range of repertoire, from baroque to contemporary music, with an important place given to the promotion of Romanian music.

The conductors in residence of the Banatul Philharmonic have been: George Pavel, Mircea Popa, Paul Popescu, Nicolae Boboc, Alexandru Şumski, Remus Georgescu, Peter Oschanitzky. Presently, the orchestra’s permanent conductors are Gheorghe Costin and Radu Popa.

 

Among the most memorable guest conductors who have performed in Timisoara we mention: Horia Andreescu, Jean François Antonioli, Ion Baciu, Roberto Benzi, Erich Bergel, Antonin Ciolan, Emanuel Elenescu, George Georgescu, Emin Haciaturian, Cristian Mandeal, Theodor Rogalski, Constantin Silvestri, Carlo Zecchi; and the following soloists: Dmitri Bashkirov, Lola Bobescu, Monique de la Bruchollerie, Li Min Chan, Aldo Ciccolini, Valentin Gheorghiu, Yvri Gitlis, Dan Grigore, Pompei Hărăşteanu, Rudolf Kehrer, Radu Lupu, Silvia Marcovici, Mihaela Martin, Eugenia Moldoveanu, Daniel Podlovski, Jean Bernard Pommier, Ştefan Ruha, Eugen Sârbu, Ludovic Spiess, Vladimir Spivakov, Daniil Şafran, Alexandru Tomescu, Ion Voicu.

 

With a Bachelor Degree from The National University of Music – Bucharest, The Composition, Musicology and Orchestra Conducting Faculty (2000), Tiberiu Oprea has studied with the famous Maestro Ludovic Bacs, also getting his Master’s degree from the same University (2001).

            Tiberiu Dragoş Oprea is the artistic founder (2007) and principal conductor of the Pitesti Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO).

            Tiberiu Dragoş Oprea is also collaborating on regular basis with many orchestras, among which: Romanian Radio Chamber Orchestra, The National Theatre of Operetta and Musical "Ion Dacian" - Bucharest, The National Theatre of Opera and Ballet – Constanţa, Bucharest Symphony Orchestra and many famous Romanian Philharmonic Orchestras like Timisoara, Cluj,  Oradea, Botosani, Arad, Ploiesti, Bacau, Craiova, Ramnicu-Valcea, Targoviste et al.  He has also been invited to conduct orchestras at important music festivals, like Bucharest Music Film Festival, or with more performances at different seasons at The George Enescu International Music Festival – Bucharest, among famous artists of the world.
