Giulio Tampalini has won many prizes at major guitar competitions such as: Narciso Yepes in Sanremo, TIM Competition in Rome in 1996 and 2000, De Bonis in Cosenza, Michele Pittaluga in Alessandria, Fernando Sor in Rome and Andrés Segovia Competition in Granada.

He has played concerts as soloist and accompanied by symphony orchestras in Italy, Europe, Asia and America, as well as appearing at numerous music festivals. In 2001 he took part in the Christmas concert at the Vatican in honor of the Pope. In 2003 his double CD Francisco Tarrega: Complete Works for Guitar (Concerto Editions) was awarded the Golden Guitar at the VI International Guitar Congress in Alessandria as the best CD of the year.

He has embarked on a major recording project for the Suonare Records label which includes the recording of the complete works for guitar by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco in five volumes. The first three volumes are already on the market and they contain guitar works from the early period of this Florentine composer (Sonata, Capriccio Diabolico, Tarantella, Aranci in fiore, Variations through the Centuries), the complete collection of Greeting Cards and the complete series of the 24 Caprichos de Goya.

Among many other CDs released are: Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquin Rodrigo, recorded with the Orchestra of the International Festival Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli conducted by Pier Carlo Orizio; works for guitar by Angelo Gilardino composed between 2002 and 2005, which include Colloquio con Andres Segovia; the complete collection of Six Rossiniane by Mauro Giuliani; Concerto No. 1 op. 99, Quintet op. 143 and Romancero Gitano by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, recorded with Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano conducted by Luigi Azzolini; the complete works for guitar by Miguel Llobet; and a DVD containing all the works for solo guitar by Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Giulio Tampalini is a guitar Professor at the Superior Institute of Music Orazio Vecchi in Modena and he is regularly invited to give masterclasses in Europe, Asia and America. He plays guitars made by Philip Woodfield and he is official endorser of Aquila Corde Armoniche.
