The School for Musical Talents, that has the status of a School of special national importance, was founded in Ćuprija in 1973. It is one of three such educational institutions in the world, and it gathers the most talented children from Serbia and beyond. The School teaches playing of the string instruments, and it has around 80 students who are from 6 to 18 years old. A large number of professors of the School are its former students who returned to continue the tradition and pass on their knowledge to younger generations.

In addition to its educational function, the School has a rich concert activity throughout Serbia and abroad – young musicians have the opportunity to collaborate with eminent performers and conductors during their education. Many former students of the School for Musical Talents are are present on the international music scene as soloists, or as members of renowned national or international orchestras and chamber ensembles. The artistic director of the School is cellist Srđan Sretenović, a professor at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, and professor Dragan Mirčić works with the orchestra.
