Paco de Lucia
Francisco Sanchez Gomez, guitarist and
composer was born in 1947 in Andalusia.
He took artistic name Paco de Lucia
by the name of his mother, Lucia. His
father, flamenco guitarist, developed his
attention to guitar from his 6 years, and
in 12 he won first award at the flamenco
competition. By nearly 18 Paco published
his first album with guitarist Ricardo
Modrego „Dos Guitarras Flamencas“.
In 1968 he started cooperation with flamenco singer Kamaron.
This duo is considering the founders of the „Nuevo Flamenco“. Paco de Lucia published „Entre dos Aguas“, the first in Spain for 20 weeks, and then he performed at the Royal Theatre in Madrid. His American story started in 1981 with „Friday Night In San Francisco“ and cooperation with John Mclaughlin and Al di Meola. At the same year he formed the ensemble including his brothers Pepe and Ramon, and besides percussions he considered wind instruments and dancers. Parallely with sextet, he published two more albums with Al di Meola and John Mclaughlin, as well as the album with Chic Corea. Paco is the author of many film music: „The Hit“ Stiven Frirs, „love in Barcelona“ Woody Alen, as well as „Don Huan de Marko“ by Frensis Ford Copola production. Documentary „Light and Shade“ of Paco’s life was filmed in 1994.
He was awarded with the International Prize for the Art by the Prince of Asturia. At present, he prepares new album, two years after “Cositas Buenas“ from 2004. After two years of concert pause, his world tour starts at the Guitar Art Festival.
